Set-stume

SET/COSTUME:

- Design/Construction: a set-stume which can be installed in the space, have multiple projection screens and allows the performer to enter and exit quite easily.

If your interested please post your relevant skills, ideas and abit about how you logistically envisage working on Senseless.

I'm from sculpture dept and previously an intensive care nurse. I'm interested in design/building set stume in the form of a skin/outer layer or looking at internal organs/nervous system to get ideas for disembodied consciousness. Will look at visiting hospital to photograph machines and piping to play aroud with. Of course drugs play a big part in all this?
Time wise is sometimes unpredictable being mother of two and husband away alot. When he is not away easier to get out at night or could get babysitter. At what time of day do you usually meet? Computer skills not up to scratch but getting better every day.
Went to launch and found using this space in terms of a public space relavent to my practise although it will be a challenge for me. Find the project very interesting and look forward to exploring new skills.

Hi I just thought id put up a few of the images brought to the meet on Friday, the idea that seemed to be the most appropriate - the ‘Straight jacket/tent’ idea.

Straight jacket form, extension of material, drawn out kimono, temporary dwelling, tents, tarp, taut/collapsed, can be hooked/unhooked, creating 3d planes, installation, projection screen environment, projection becomes like a texture on the surface, perhaps horizontal planes, not simply a vertical screen.

Hi Olivia and others, Michelle and Amy have been adding lots of great imagery to site. So not much point in repeating process but spent this morning running around sourcing materials . We are going to install it in student gallery today to work on next week, so far no problems!!!

I think the work going ahead is excellent, but my one concern is that it won't fill the space. My understanding of the setstume concept was so it was as if Mitnik was trying to 'push through' this mass that envelops the space. And then at some point during the performance, she breaks out, reflecting the struggle of each of the stories to be given a voice. If it is just a case of having pieces of sweeping fabric coming out from the construction then that is fine, and obviously other elements such as lighting design etc have to be taken into consideration, but I am thinking theatrically about creating the impact and atmosphere that we are seeking rather than a sculptural construction in the middle of a vast space.
Thoughts?
