Goanna Pulling Training
April 14th-16th is a long weekend for most of us, but for the residents of coastal town Wooli, NSW, it is far more than that.
Every year this town hosts the national Goanna Pulling championships along with other festivities.
My interests in Goanna Pulling developed after a trip to emerald Qld where I participated in a few games at my cousins wedding. It is a two player game that involves strapping a looped belt around the back of both players necks and from there one player must pull the other over to their side.
It is a floor based variation of the tug of war.
The game appeals so much to me for a lot of different reasons. I used alot of this game for perfomance work during honours because it simply underlined the ideas I was researching in my paper.
I have decided it would be worthwhile to visit Wooli to find out a bit more about it and to participate if possible, which will my next series of video work for the start. The training.
