Summary Blog
Submitted by Olivia on Thu, 27/07/2006 - 15:46.
We need some kind of summary blog in order to distill all the content of the development into a conceivable whole. I emplore each of you to summarise the content of the Senseless forums into easily and clearly reduced sentences, with references to the detailed content you are describing.

Summary from before the Showing
In mid-2005 Olivia and I have an idea for a script development. Using Olivias idea of rhizomic narrative structures and my interest in online collaboration we conceived of an online script development.
Toward late 2005 Jacob has become involved in the creative and administrative planning for the script development that has taken the working title 'Senseless'.
At the beginning of 2006 Olivia works out the themes and basic world of 'Senseless'. She approaches a range of writers for their interest in the project.
By march 2006 Olivia, Alex and Jacob have organised the www.polyopticon.org site structure to manage the project. They work out the research, forum structure and administration of the project.
In April 2006 the writers are invited to discuss their initial thoughts to the project in the 'talking senseless' thread. The info forum grows to include the stuff needed by the writers, producer, animateur and visual artist to cooperatively develop the first stage of the creative process.
In May 2006 the first drafts were posted and collated in the script writers forum. The writers collaborated on their ideas sharing character crossovers and larger story world themes and notions.
In June 2006 a rigourous drafting process took place as the scripts were edited for their performative requirements.
In July 2006 the scripts were developed into a rudimentary performance that included the aestheitcs developments that had been formed alongside the scripts and perfromance.
On July 26 and 27 Senseless had a showing as part of fortyfive downstairs development season.
Late July - we are seeking feedback from our collaborators and audiences to continue developing all aspects of the show.
PS: If someone has another angle on this summary please share it.
The next step
A couple of things have happened since the development. Aside from the learning experience and the new ideas which are bubbling away post reflection/feedback, we have had news that we didn't get funding support for the production from either the City of Melbourne or the Australia Council. The good news is we were very close and have received some excellent feedback in regards to further improvements of the idea for production. The other news is we are going to try again for support from Australia Council which actually means we have had to change our dates for production from March/April to April/May. It's actually better because it means we aren't aligned with the Comedy Festival and, it also gives us more time to develop the ideas/material before we start the intensive lead up to production.
I'll keep you posted on how this all pans out.

Another Next Step...
The new next step for Senseless is the second round creative development. This will be worked up from March 2007 and we will show some sort of a development outcome in mid-May 2007.
Collaborations Contract
Senseless has been given the opportunity to open its door to the VCA 3rd Year CFI subject, Collaborations Contract.
The artists would work with the Senseless Crew in a collaborative manner to respond to the form, themes, scripts and world of Senseless.
Possible collaborations could include:
PERFORMANCE:
- for stage: working to develop the monologues to a point where they can be performed, either by yourself or Olivia, or where the pre-recorded voice can be used as a track underlying the performance.
- for film: as either an embodiment of one of the characters channelling through Senseless, or as a friend, lover, colleague or family member of one of the characters.
FILM:
- abstract: an abstract, dream-like, ambient response to one of the scripts, that accompanies the performance of that script.
- interpretive: an interpretation of part of the content of one of the scripts. In this case, rather than that section being performed live it is projected as film/video. This does not have to be a literal interpretation.
- realistic: a literal, realistic response to certain images or scenes in one of the scripts. This would be projected during the performance of the script/monologue. It would be a silent film.
SOUND:
- Composition: composing the sound scape for Senseless, or for one of the scripts.
- Voice Distortion: a technical exploration of live voice distortion, and surround sound.
SET/COSTUME:
- Design/Construction: a set-stume which can be installed in the space, have multiple projection screens and allows the performer to enter and exit quite easily.
PRODUCTION:
- Production Manager: managing the production both on-line and in performance.
- Stage/Technical Manager: working with the designers to logistically realise this technical beast ; )
The Logistics of Senseless - 2nd Creative Development
How:
We have a few thousand $ remaining from the Take Your Partner Grant, to work toward realising a performance outcome for Senseless.
What:
The outcome will be developmental, focusing on the theatricality of the scripts and on extending the world of Senseless visually, filmically, verbally, physically, aurally and sensorially.
Where:
x:machine resides out of a massive warehouse in Cremorne St. Richmond. The performance will be rehearsed, developed, filmed (if necessary), and shown in this space.
When:
There is a proposed showing of the outcome of this second phase of development in mid-May 2007.
Who:
The current Senseless crew will work in collaboration with potential VCA students from 'Collaborative Contracts' to realise the broader theatrical (multi-media) vision of Senseless. They will also liase with mentor David Pledger and Dramaturg Leisa Shelton to realise their potential.

Leona's spokesperson also told the publication: "Her new style's a natural progression as she loves fashion. Her look's in preparation for her tour, which starts on May 28. She's been hands-on with all the wardrobe design and it'll be edgy, but this tour and her current album are her priority right now.
