An opening statement about the work
Part of what got me so fascinated by Alex's drawing program was the odd free form lines it generates randomly. For example, when drawing the human form, feet are occasionally joined to hands with extra lines running at triangular angles (Alex has since worked out how to make these straight lines into bezier curves, but we are going with the aesthetic of the lines) and they reminded me somewhat of blue prints, maps and specifically star constellations.
The really exciting part is going to be marrying all of our work together - Alex's amazing tech and grasp of programming, my background with compositing, CGI, actors, and the exquisate music of these talented musos.
Goodnight Thomas' "Close your eyes" is a beautiful but contradictory song - a mixture of light and dark, love and desperation, sublime subtleties and intense drama. In terms of the video, I envisage presenting a lot of these ideas with visual motifs that tie into the lyrics. Dream like states of glowing whites intercut with nighttime and billowing storm clouds, star constellations, and crowds of ghostly figures (created by Alex's drawing program) are the key motifs. I plan to mock up a few frames and post them by the end of the week.
One animation idea I have had so far, was for the strange triangulation lines (generated by the program when it describes the human form), to be a catalyst for creating the constellations. The constellations are likely to be intricate flash animations evolving sombrely to the music.
